Critic’s Rating: 3/5
Story: Sahil (Malhar Thakar) and Harshita (Manasi Parekh) abruptly end their two-year relationship. However, their well-meaning parents, Mohanbhai (Sachin Khedekar) and Jyotsna (Vandana Pathak), persistently attempt to reconcile the couple, leading to a series of humorous and heartfelt moments.
Review: Golkeri, directed by Viral Shah, is a Gujarati adaptation of the Marathi film ‘Muramba.’ The film delves into the complexities of modern relationships, juxtaposed with traditional family values, much like the sweet and tangy flavors of the Gujarati pickle it’s named after.
Malhar Thakar portrays Sahil, a 26-year-old grappling with immaturity and a reluctance to step out of his comfort zone. His performance captures the essence of a young man at a crossroads, though it occasionally borders on repetitiveness. Manasi Parekh, making her Dhollywood debut, brings a refreshing presence as Harshita, a strong-willed and career-oriented Amdavadi woman. Her portrayal adds depth to the narrative, balancing the film’s emotional spectrum.
Veteran actors Sachin Khedekar and Vandana Pathak, in their first Gujarati film roles, deliver commendable performances as Sahil’s parents. Their on-screen chemistry and comedic timing provide a solid backbone to the storyline, offering both humor and wisdom.
While the film boasts engaging performances, the first half tends to drag, affecting the overall pacing. The dialogues, especially between Sahil and his parents, could have been more impactful. However, the second half gains momentum, leading to a satisfying conclusion.
The music by Salil Amrute complements the film’s tone, with tracks like ‘Soni Gujarat Ni’ standing out. The cinematography captures Ahmedabad’s essence, adding authenticity to the setting.
In essence, ‘Golkeri’ offers a light-hearted exploration of love and familial bonds. Despite its predictability and minor flaws, it provides a relatable and enjoyable viewing experience, especially for those seeking a feel-good family entertainer.
